Over the past 10 years, my wife and I have learned much about the science and art of using bicycles as the primary mode of transportation to explore various regions of our wonderful and diverse world. While it may seem daunting to some, self-directed bicycle adventure traveling can actually be relatively easy once you master the basics and gain the self-confidence instilled after a few successful trips.

Our guide was created to provide helpful information for those who might choose to plan and execute their own bicycle travel adventures. The guide provides a step-by-step approach to planning and executing a successful self-directed bicycle tour and can be applied to journeys large and small. This guide will be constantly updated and added to as we publish more content that might be useful to others.
Like many other bicycle tourists, we started with organized tours booked through established companies. After several years we decided to attempt planning and executing our own tours. Eventually we became proficient at fully self-directing our adventures, including the packing and transport of our personal touring bicycles for use on our journeys. The Boomerz Bicycle Transport System (BBTS) was designed to allow us to easily and safely pack our full-sized touring bicycles for airline travel while keeping the overall weight under the typical 50 pounds (23 Kg) limit imposed by most airline carriers for their free baggage allowance.
